  • Can’t output on avid 4.3 24p!!! Help!!!

Posted by Dennis Przywara on November 7, 2006 at 8:06 am

    Hi everyone,

    Here’s the scoop:

    Running Avid 4.3 PC
    on Dell Latitude c840

Digitized on the Panasonic DVX100A in 24p mode into my Maxtor 1TB drive. Not a problem at all. Cut some clips together, made a qucik little 3 min. sequence and it played seamlessly. The problem is the outputting the sequence back to the camera.

I used to do 30p projects on this computer and have outputted on my older Canon XL1 without a problem. Now, using Avid 4.3, in 24p mode, I cannot output on my Panasonic DVX100A, when I go to the special pulldown to enable the digital video out, it’s shaded out so I can’t use it. I even tried just to do a crash edit by hitting play in the record monitor, but nothing… just a blue screen on my camera. In 30p mode, there was a digital video out button on the timeline that with a quick click, would allow me to output to my XL1. On 4.3, 24p I see nothing on the timeline. Am i doing something wrong? A setting I’m not using? just trying to get this project off the ground!

Any help would be great ASAP!

    Thanks for all your help!!!

Pretty sure you need a Mojo with that version of Avid to go back out to tape with 24p. Or you upgrade to 5.2.4 / 5.6.2 and either of those should work without a mojo.

I have to buy a 2000 dollar machine just to make an output? Not that I don’t believe you, but there has to be another way.

Then why is my pulldown to enable the digital video out is shaded out? That should have nothing to do with the camera.

Not that I don’t believe you, but there has to be a easy way to output this piece.

As I said, Mojo or an update to the Avid 5.x series. That should be a $49 upgrade or free. Not sure for you.

Others will chime in I am sure.

The DVX100A records only 29.97 NTSC regardless of the frame cadence configuration. “24p” is 2:3:2:3 or 2:3:3:2.

This article says the camera does run at 24p

    https://digitalcontentproducer.com/mag/video_panasonic_agdvxa/

Though, with that said, what should be the rate setting that my new project should be put on? 23.97 or 29.97?

    Thanks for your help!

The camera runs at 24p. The tape is still recorded at 29.97 with a 2:3:2:3 pulldown or 2:3:3:2 pulldown with 24pA. Just like a film to tape transfer. If you use the camera’s deck to record, it should be a 29.97 project, assuming it’s NTSC.
