  • Can’t open Vegas program after installation

Posted by Ivan Hidalgo on May 9, 2009 at 6:39 pm

    Hello:

I just bought and installed Vegas Movie Studio 9.0 Platinum Pro Pack. I inserted the installation disk and followed the instructions on the screen and it said I successfully installed. When I go to the program icon and double click it, nothing happens. I tried opening it from the Start menu bar as well and nothing. I even tried removing the program and re-installing and nothing. I also made sure to re-boot and that my firewall is off…npthing. The program icon seems to be “grey” so I’m thinking maybe I need to register it first for it to work? The problem is I can’t open the program to even do that and it never asked me for the code at any step in the installation process.

The exact same thing happens with the DVD Architect Studio 4.5 program that came with the package.

My computer specs are the following:
    -Dell Dimension 4600 Series
    -2.8 GHz
    -400 Mhz RAM
    -Windows XP SP2
-120 GB of Hard Drive (had 30 GB free)

I would really appreciate any help any of you can provide. Thanks.

    Ivan

Just a shot in the dark here….
Uninstall and delete every folder pertaining to
sony vegas…..Then run the check disc utility to
correct any corruption you may have on your system
    that is causing this issue…eg
    Press start, then press run
then type in chkdsk c:/f…then press ok.
when the prompts comes up press Y (fulls cap).
    then restart your PC.

When all is done, reinstall Vegas and lets see
    what happens.

Thanks. Before I do this maybe this is of useful information: I still have my old version of Vegas 4.0 installed in my computer. Could it be that I need to de-install this for my new 9.0 version to work?

I ask because before I delete every file you suggest, it may have implications on deleting files that may affect my Vegas 4.0. My ideal situation would be to not de-install the old version in case I can’t make the this new 9.0 version work, at least I have my old one worse case.

    Does it even matter?

I meant to only delete all the folders pertaining
to vegas movie studio 9 after you uninstall it….then
follow the info to run the check disk utility.

Having several versions of vegas on the same pc
    is not a problem.

Thanks for clarifying. I did what you indicated, un-installed and deleted all programs/folders pertaining to Sony. Then I ran the check disk utility successfully. This time around I only installed the 9.0 version (ignored Architect and the other installs). Still, SAME problem.

The weird thing is that after I install I get a window that says that the software was installed “successfully.” I don’t get why I can’t open the program? I have to believe it has something to do with the registration. I bought this software in Amazon and it came in a sealed box with all the serial numbers and authenthication codes…so I have to believe it’s legit, but I can’t even get to a window to input them. What else do you think I can do?

You could try downlaoding the trial version and installing it and see if it works?

BTW did you mean 400MHz of ram?
Also 30 G out of 120 is not much free room.
