  • Can’t open M-100 Program

Posted by Joseph Stillman on May 12, 2016 at 8:36 pm

I’m trying to open a Media 100 program and it won’t: it reads” can not open because a program error of type- 199 occurred.” I get that and end of file messages on some programs that won’t open. How can I open this up? Thanks.

Did your files spend some time on a Windows machine or server? I suspect they were stripped of their resource forks and are therefore permanently useless. You have to find the originals on a Mac volume.

    No,
My programs have always been on one mac pro system. This is a very big documentary, a 90-min. project I started four years ago. I have over two dozen bins and about 200 clips per bin spread over 7 different hard drives. My problem is I can’t seem to find a way to open the various programs that I need. Additionally, I haven’t changed the OS during this time either. And in the 12+ years I’ve been using Media 100, it’s the only time this problem has come up. I need some help on this one! Any ideas or am I stuck? Thanks.

Maybe make a zip file from one of the programs (no media needed), put it in a public Dropbox folder and post the url to it here.

To make a zip file, ctrl-click from the Finder and select Compress “filename”

Aloha Joseph – you might try un-installing Media 100 and then re-installing. Takes only a few minutes and that has solved my ‘sometimes won’t open’ problems.

If the reinstall doesn’t work you might also try creating a new project and then try opening the programs within that new project.

I tried uninstalling and and then reinstalling M100 with the same results. My big problem now is that the 90 minute show I need to open won’t even tho’I created a new project and tried to open it up there. I’m getting a “can’t open program because end of file” message. What does that mean?

Have you tried opening the project while holding down the SHIFT key? That prevents programs and bins from opening on startup.

    Joseph,

there are 2 possible issues here: either your “program” document got corrupted, or one of your media files (e.g. a render file or a video clip) is corrupted.
If possible, try opening the program file with your media drives unmounted. Does it open?
If not, there should be (as long as you did not turn it off) a backup folder within your “Documents” folder inside your users folder. Try to find a backup of your program there that works.
If your program opens without your media files, then there is a bad file within one of your media folders. We can do some troubleshooting with these if your program opens without the media files.

And btw., if you can get help from Dave M. you definitely should take it. He knows what he is doing 😉
