Can’t Open FCP Project (still)
Hi everyone,
Quick recap- I tried opening an FCP project I’ve been working on for months yesterday and the computer froze and refused to open the project. I do “save as” with a new number every day so I have bench marks in case of significant errors. A three-day old save will open with no problems.

So I followed the advice of a Ken Stone article reccommended to me. The article tells you to make your media offline, which I did. The project file in question opened without a problem with the media offline. I then transfered all media to a different hard drive. I am leaving the original capture scratch drive disconnected for the time being. The Ken Stone article’s idea is to go through and reconnect one bin at a time until you find the one that’s stopping the program from loading, and therein lies your corrupted media according to the article. Sounds logical to me.
So here’s the question- I have only been working on one specific section of this project for at least a month. I have reconnected all of the media from this section and as of now have not found the corrupt file. Do files that haven’t been used in a long time just go corrupt? Reconnecting bin by bin is a very tedious process and it feels a little silly worrying about reconnecting media that I haven’t used/looked at/thought about since February.
I guess the real question is- Am I barking up the wrong tree going through this reconnecting media business? Is there something else I should be doing?
