    Hi,
I’ve paid for a tv show through my workplace.
We downloaded it so that it could be captioned/subtitled (by me).
It comes through looking like a Quicktime movie and will play if I double click it.
HOWEVER, if I try to bring it directly into sony DVD architect so I can add subtitles, DVDA can’t read the file.
THEN, if I try to drop it into Sony Vegas so that I can render to mpeg2 (preferred version for subtitling), Vegas will open the file and put it into a timeline but I get a message something like ‘no audio file found, making a pseudo(wrong word) file for you’ I say ‘ok’ and Vegas renders this to mpeg2.
HOWEVER, 58 mins into a 100 min movie, the sound suddenly changes to a constant drone. It can be seen on the audio strip and sounds like a drone.
ORIGINAL movie as downloaded plays fine at this point, no problem with sound.
I’ve tried twice, once I brough the downloaded movie through movie maker first, then into Vegas but still the audio turned to droning at exactly 58 mins.
Don’t know what to do, in order to caption I need Vegas or DVDA to read this file.
    Hope htat makes sense,
    thank you.

I would convert them with Streamclip (free) to something more friendly to Vegas.

What video and audio codec does the file use?

I agree with Danny. You should probably convert the file to something easier to edit. I usually use AviDemux to create an AVI file with Motion-JPEG video and PCM audio.
