Can’t install Snow Leopard on Partition Drive
So I want to install Snow Leopard on a external drive that I partition. I need it in order to edit on FCP 7. I currently I’m on el captian 10.11 on my MacPro Quad-core (early 2009) which I need for other programs but I also use FCP 7 and currently I’m having issues with it under 10.11. So, I want to use it with 10.6 which use to work great with it and was going to install on a partition drive, but when I put in the install disc the OS 10.11 can’t recognize the install program for 10.6. So how do I work around this? Any help would be great. Thanks!

Yea, that’s because Apple dropped support for Rosetta which was the subsystem that supported PowerPC and the install program is probable written for PowerPC.
What you should be able to do is create the partition in El Capitan. Then boot your Mac from the Snow Leopard DVD just like you would have back in the day. When prompted to install, select the partition that you created for Snow Leopard and let it install. That should work.

Thanks for the post. How would I boot off the DVD? If you can give me some steps on that, that would be great or if there is a website or video somewhere that explains it that would work as well.

Put the DVD into the drive. Restart the computer. When you hear the boot “Chime”… press and hold the Alt/Option (⌥) key until you see the boot screen which should now include an icon for the DVD as a boot option. Click on it and your Mac will boot from the DVD.
