Can’t import quicktime files in FCP 6.0!

Guys…

I know he’s trying to work with a file that will be problematic….but normally FCP will happily import an H.264 video (only to give you problems editing it later…).

The error message (access denied) he’s getting seems to indicate he has a permissions issue.

Benjamin, you should definitely convert this using Compressor to a more edit friendly codec (the ones they others suggested should be fine). You will find the presets self explanatory within Compressor.

Did I read correctly that you cannot import ANY file? Where do the files you are trying to import reside?

AAC audio can produce the same result. Any bets the other files are in the same format?

Is it perhaps that you are trying to import a movie shot on a Canon T1i while the movie is still on the memory card. Meaning have you connected the camera to the system and are trying to edit a movie while its still in the camera?

20 fps (yes twenty fps) h.264 is what Canon T1i shoots, and permission denied would be if the movie was still on the card in the camera?

Just wild guessing.

Only in 1080. It does 30fps in 720, but either frame size you’d never want to to convert it to DV. That would be a horrible waste.

I just experienced this issue last night, and found my answer here on the COW, thanks!

To add to the mysterious QT file, mine was a little different. I had previously worked on a project that required me to rip a DVD for some footage. I used the footage, no problem, it was fine. I delivered, ect. Months later they needed a change and I guess somewhere along the way the VOB files were deleted and I no longer had “access” to the quicktime mov, and couldn’t dump in final cut, and couldn’t reconnect my media. I converted it to DV, and reconnected the media, and everything worked fine.

Just figured I’d help the next guy. 🙂
