  • Can’t import or playback QT Animation on PC

    Hi,
Got a odd issue with a file that I just won’t play back in either QT pro (v 7.6.8), vlc or open/import in After Effects. Haven’t got this problem before on QT files using the Animation codec. Meta data gives no strange info – only that it’s a qt using animation as codec.

Know that there are some cross platform issues on other QT formats, but not this one.

Tried several other Qt animation files – and they are still playing back smoothly.

Tried to play the file from the same hard drive on a mac with fcp installed. Worked excellent.

    I’m on PC.

Do you guys recommend a better workflow aka another compressor/settings I could tell my client about? I want to edit the files in After Effects. Is there a format like tiff sequence with 10/16bpc with lossless compression and colour management that works outside FCP.

    High five.

Thanks Dave, but unfortunaly it did’t work.

What is it with fcp and their own quicktime codecs?
I don’t have fcp installed on my system and can therefore not read all quicktime files.

Do I need to buy a new computer and a fcp license or what is the deal?

    High five.

    Hmm,
Ok, you’re probably right, I’ll dig som more into the QT settings..

..but the the strange thing is that I’m able to watch all other clips encoded in animation. It’s just those specific clips I got problems with. Have they changed anything recently in the codec? New sound codecs etc.?

Are still able to watch the same clip (same hard drive) on a mac with fcp installed. In Quicktime media inspector it clearly says “using Animation codec”. Very odd.

There are also other quicktime formats that I can’t use, for example xdcam quicktime.

    Prores 422 works brilliant.

I think there is time for Adobe and Apple to set up a meeting.
