Can’t import MXF
I have a bunch of MXF files, that I pulled from a P2 card, stored on a CD. They won’t import into FCP. Do I need to convert them into something else or am I missing a step?

with FCP 5 you need to use Import-P2
with FCP6 you use Log and Transfer

The problem is that I don’t have the CONTENTS folder or the LASTCLIP.TXT file, just the MXF’s and BMP’s. I found a forum that explained sort of how to re-create them, but it wasn’t very thorough. Is that possible, and if so, how do I do it?

If you don’t have the CONTENTS folder and exact file structure, you can’t import them into FCP without help.

In the CONTENTS folder you have to have – (to work with FCP)
AUDIO (mxf files)
CLIP (xml files)
ICON (bmp files)
VIDEO (mxf files)The only one you don’t have listed is the CLIP files.
You may check RAYLIGHT app it can work with mxf files directly so it may be the fix you need.
BTW – it would be helpful to give as much info up front as possible. Better answers come from better description of the problem.

if u don’t have the whole CONTENTS folder, u must need a third party software to import your MXF. As we all know, Apple Prores is the native format for FCP. so u can use third party software to do this conversion. here， a video converter with ProRes output can give u a help.
