  • Can’t import folders into bins

    Hi again!

I was given folders full of folders and files of music, sound effects, and graphics from a client. I go to drag and drop the folders into separate bins in my avid projects (like I would in FCP), and I keep getting the error “The file format of (name of folder) is not supported for import.

But when I just import an individual file from those folders, it comes across fine. That is not only incredibly time consuming, but would also mean I would have to re-organize all the existing folders in AVID if each file has to be brought in individually. Also, I can’t figure out how you make folders within bins either to even organize things in such a way.

Thanks for the help. Sorry for being a newb.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that in Avid. You can’t have folders inside bins, but you can have multiple folders in a Project, and each folder can contain bins and/or subfolders. You will have to manually create those, though, and you can only bring stuff into a single bin at a time.

Argh. Thanks Joe. That’s very frustrating, but thank you for clearing it up.

In the import dialogue, you can select more than one file.
Navigate to the windows folder, select all files in the folder with Ctrl+a.
    Press OK.
