  • Can’t import any files to Final Cut Pro

I’ve been editing on Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 for a long time but suddently I can’t import any files to the program (.mov, .jpg, .aif..)

If I go to File > Import and select a file, I get a message “File Error: 1 file(s) recoginized, 0 access, 1 unknown)

If I drag a file directly to the Browser, I get a message: “File Error: Unknown file”

I can still capture footage and it goes to the selected Scratch Disks, but I cannot even import this footage (doesn’t show up automatically on the Browser window either). I get the same error messages again. And again, same thing with .jpegs or .aifs or any other files.

I just upgraded my Quicktime to 7.0.3. (deleted old preferences too) but it didn’t help.

Any help would be great appreciated! Thank you in advance.

    Final Cut Pro HD 4.5
    Macintosh 10.4.3.
    Quicktime 7.0.3.

Did you delete the FCP preferences? Download FCP RESCUE and run that.

Also, try creating a new project and see if it works there. If it does, something is up with your current one.

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

I ran the FCP Rescue for a couple of times to be sure (restarted computer too) but it didn’t help.
Trying creating a new project, the same thing.

The weird thing is that I can still play my old projects just fine, even copy and paste files from one project to another.

Somehow my FCP just doesn’t import any files at all.
(doesn’t even import old .mov files that still play fine on FCP when I open an old project)
    Exporting works fine.

    Got it to work.

Thanks Shane for the FCP Rescue tip —
I emptied the trash and restarted one more time. Works! Thanks a bunch!!
