  • Can’t import Alembic files into Cineware / Cinema 4D Lite

I have very simple test Alembic files (a cube animating) exported from Both Maya and Blender (using Octane for Blender plug-In). Neither of these .abc files will successfully import into Cinema 4D Lite for After Effects.

I get the following error when I use the open dialogue or drag and drop the ABC file into the Cinema 4D viewport:

    CINEMA 4D Lite
    Unknown file format!

OBJ and FBX all import normally but the ABC files always fail with the above error.

I have verified that the Alembic module is installed in the Import/Export preferences, as seen in the attached screen shot.

I have also verified the exported Maya Alembic file is ok by successfully importing it into Octane Stand Alone.

Is there a setting or switch in AE or Cinema 4D Lite I may not be enabling correctly? All tutorials I have seen on the web just show the abc files being dropped into the viewport.

I am using After Effects CC 13.0.2 and Cinema 4D Lite 14.035 on Mac 10.9.4.
