  • Can’t get Text—Effects & Presets—to apply, keep getting error

Posted by Martin Jordan on October 9, 2009 at 9:30 pm

    Using AE CS4, 9.0.2.42.

    • Typed text in a new composition/window/effects & presets/browse preset…….Bridge opens 3.0.0.462

No matter what type effect I choose to apply to my text, I get the same error:
After Effects error: Can’t import file “effect name”. unsupported filetype or extension.

    see error window here—https://www.alphaomegadesign.com/images/ae-text-error.jpg

    What’s going on?

You shouldn’t be trying to import the animation preset. You should be applying it. See the instructions on this page for several ways to apply animation presets. If one doesn’t work, please give a click-by-click account of what you’re doing that isn’t working.

Well, in the Creative Cow Total training series ON AE the lady teacher—I believe she’s from Adobe—shows in the tutorial that’s how you do it.

You type some text, browse presets, goes to Bridge, you preview what preset effect you want and then dbl. click it and it applies to your text.

But, I have found another way to to apply it.

    Thanks.

I have the same problem, this worked in cs3 but not in cs4, I thought
the idea with bridge was to be able to see and “apply” the effects
to you text etc in AE with a double click on the effect in bridge.
That error message is a pain!
