Can’t get SnagIt Mp4 into Vegas

Using Vegas Pro 10.0

SnagIt (a screen video recorder) generates Mp4s with the following spec (as per GSpot)

Codec – avc1
Name – H.264/MPEG-4 AVC
Status – Codec Status Undetermined

Container

mp42: MP4 v2 [ISO 14496-14]
– mp41: MP4 v1 [ISO 14496-1:ch13]
– isom: MP4 Base Media v1 [IS0 14496-12:2003]

I can play this in VLC and get video and audio. In Vegas only audio. Video track is not created.

Love my Vegas and would love to be able to work with these files without rendering them to another format first.

It looks like the MP4 generated by Snagit/Camtasia is not fully compatible with Vegas.

If, like me, you prefer editing you screencasts with Vegas, and look for a tool which only focuses on the job of recording the screen, you might be interested by the software I have just developped and which is available in beta:

In fact, fixing the last bug reported by beta-testers was faster than expected, and the product is now available for public release.

Have you tried Camstudio? It’s open source and records to AVI.

Windows 7 includes a Problem Step Recorder.

Both free!
