Can’t find text editor in Vegas 8!
Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8.0 Platinum:
When I right click on the green icon on a text event in my timeline and select ‘Edit Generated Media’ nothing happens. The text editor does not open up. There are swishing lines that go straight to the bottom of the app window in a split second – as if the editor was being minimized, but where the heck is it? I can’t find it. I can’t edit my text. The text edit window does not open even when I drag & drop the media from the text Media Generator. This is driving me crazy! Somebody please help. I can’t find any clue in the online Help.

I believe I know what the problem is, which I ran into, and it is very irritating. The swishing lines that you see are the sony text edit FX window minimizing UNDERNEATH the windows status bar. Try shrinking your windows status bar to a tiny line, and you should see a bit of it sticking there; try to grab it. If you CANNOT grab it, you will have to relocate your windows status bar to the left or right side of the screen and THEN you will be able to find and grab the minimized FX window. I went nuts just like you until I thought about what was happening. Why it happened I am not sure, but believe me, it’s under the windows status bar.

I believe you. How do I shrink the windows status bar?

Wait a minute… you mean the Windows ‘toolbar’. I could not shrink it until I deselected ‘Lock toolbar’ on the right click menu. Now I found my text editor, just like you predicted.

An alternate solution is to change the resolution of your monitor to a higher resolution, find the text box, move it back to the main area, and the reset your screen resolution back.
A third solution would be to reset everything back to “factory defaults” by holding down CTRL-SHIFT while starting Vegas.

Is there any particular reason why this happens? The fact that it is minimizing outside the vegas desktop suggest that they are all floating toolbars….any ideas?

They ARE movable windows and can be docked with other windows (like where the explorer, media pool, effects, and transitions are located). You can put them anywhere you like.

…but who knew they could actually end up completely hidden from view? Throw me a curve ball why don’t you!

Yep, just like any other window (any program you run), they can actually be moved OFF the screen! Which is USEFUL when you have multiple monitors as you may want that dialog box on the second monitor.
