  • Can’t find a commercial style for reference.

    Hi all,

Working on a project where I need to reference one of my ideas. I’ve seen several commercials that use this technique, but of course when I need to reference it, I can’t think of it. Any help?

It’s basically where you see someone walking, getting a coffee, etc…but as they walk, there are several different people that ‘pop’ into place seemingly on a frame-by-frame basis, so that the commercial is trying to apply to everyone, and not just a specific actor. It’s like they shot 20-40 people walking the same pace and footsteps, and then just edit in and cycle each person in frame by frame. Bascially a stop motion editing effect but like they green screened the people. Very cool effect…have seen it around a lot…but for the life of me can’t think of the brand.

    Anyone?

    Thanks so much!!
    -Gene.

Not exactly what you are asking for but this is something similar, that involves dancers changing outfits as they dance.

    Glen,

Thanks so much for the reference video. Yes, it’s very much like this, but I’m looking for something a bit more specific. I’ve been able to find similar videos with peoples clothes changing, but I’m really hoping to find one where the one person is actually several people as they walk down a sidewalk, pickup a coffee, etc.

    I KNOW I’ve seen it on TV…and recently…just can’t remember what it was for…

Thanks for the link…and I appreciate you letting me know if you come across anything else.

    Gene.

    Juris,

Thank you, but unfortunately that’s not what I’m after.

Looking for a commercial with just one person who is constantly replaced by other people using a stop-motion like effect.

    Thanks for trying!

    Shane,

Thank you so much for this example…can’t believe I didn’t think of Scrubs!

This is very close…nearly there. Looking for hard cuts (like stop motion) instead of fast dissolves.

    Thanks!!

You could also just use stock footage, or if you have a program like Daz Studio, animate one character in different outfits, and cut a demo.
