  • Can’t Extract Audio from CD

    Hello Vegas Users,

I’m preparing a Wedding photo montage and trying to extract audio from my royalty free music cd. I’m using Vegas6. The dialog box comes up to extract the music and Vegas recognizes my drives, but no music tracks appear. Is there something that I need to do in the properties menu.
    Any suggestions, thanks all.

When you extract, it simply copies the files into the folder you specify. You then just browse to that folder using the Explorer window and then drag the desired song to the timeline.

    Hi Ed,

I know that ED. When I go to File>Extract audio from CD, I then tell it what drive I’m using and nothing happens (It’s empty). I have no tracks to choose from because it shows no tracks on the cd in the Dialog box. The only way I can extract songs is if I go to Explorer> the drive I’m using and open the file from there and then drag it to my designated file.

Hi Ralph. Make sure the “Action” in the drop-down menu is set to “Read by track” and not “Read by range” or Read entire disc” as these options will result in what you described.

    Hi Mike,

I’ve tried everything that you have mentioned, but with no success. As I stated before, nothing comes up in the extract audio cd dialog box. I set it to read by track, hit the Refresh button, I tried both of my drives and the samething (nothing). My drives show up in the drop down box, but no tracks pop up. Apparently, it’s not reading the cd. I’ll just have to extract my sound tracks another way, through the explorer and drag them to my file.
Sorry I missed you last week. Next time I’ll give you more advance warning.

Ralph, out of curiosity, do other CDs work OK for you? I’m wondering if it’s just this one CD that’s a bit flaky.

    Hi Ed & Mike,

Thanks for giving me that suggestion of trying another cd. IT WORKED. I was bringing some music loops into my photo montage from the Orchestra Series 4, Loops for Acid. Apparently, I need to bring it in through the Explorer and drag it in as stated previously. I tried another Wedding cd that I bought at NAB and it worked. Then I tried the sound series that I won at the Sony party (Chicago Fire) and it didn’t work. So I learned that loops can’t be extracted through “Extract Audio from CD”.

    Thanks Guys
    Mooooooooooooo!

Glad you got it sorted out Ralph. You taught me something new too as I’ve never tried extracting loops and didn’t know it wouldn’t work.

That makes sense. Loops wouldn’t be a standard audio CD. Instead, they would be a data CD with the loop files.

    Mike & Ed,

On the CD there’s short orchestra scores that are already put together to get you started and are perfect for my introduction & conclusion to my photo montages. If I want to build onto those short scores, I then bring them into Acid Pro and compose my own music.
Check out that new computer at videoguys.com. for HDV, what a monster.

    Have a great day 🙂
