Cant export XML from FCP to PP
Posted by Jack Bibbo on January 12, 2012 at 12:56 amIndividual SEQ work fine. But Project XMl’s do not.
Tried to pair down the project to a folder or two but it still gave me a generic error message
any thoughts?

January 12, 2012 at 3:46 amI just imported an entire project the other day. Worked a treat.
Make sure you have latest PPro. What general message do you get?

So XML of FCP that are simple. Maybe one folder bunch of clips have worked.
XML’s of Seq have worked.
However this project that has tons of folders within folders with mix media all fails.
ideas?
thanks

5.5.2?
There’s usually a log that gets written in to the PPro project. Anything in that log?

January 12, 2012 at 6:29 pmHey Jeremy,
I am new to PPro. Our Facility is testing out the program as we are thinking about transferring from FCP.
Where do I find that log?
I will look in if it is 5.5 or 5.5.2

In the project in the bin named after the XML.
Did anything come in at all?
Make sure you update the software as I think there was changes made to XML importing.
I am new to the software and in testing stages as well.

January 12, 2012 at 7:17 pmhey Jeremy,
so we are on 5.5.2
There was no report generated.
For another test, I ran it in reverse. PPro to FCP XML Opened my that XML in FCP and it worked great. Then saved that proj, kicked out an XML and opened it in PPro, ie went back FCP to PPPro. And that worked. Few things were wonky (offline) but essentially it worked.
So something is up with that original FCP Project (the big one that fails) but without a report I can not see which file it is hanging up on that essentially crashes it.
I got a report going from PPro to FCP but not from FCP to PPro. Even on the one that worked. It was not in the main folder from which I pulled the XML (like it was when I went from PPro to FCP – I saw that report and it was all there)
not sure where that puts me…..

Hung out to dry. Left in the cold. Up a creek, no paddle.
🙂
Any chance you can upload the failed XML? I can try it here.
The other thing to do would be to select a few elements (at root level) in the FCP project at a time and export those as an XML.
If at any point one of those imports fails, perhaps you can start to narrow it down.
