Thanks again, Chris, for taking the time to try and figure this out. But, doesn’t using a PNG sequence result in hundreds or thousands of individual image files? I can see guys like you all dealing with that but I never saw the need for me with my limited drive space.

As I said, I’m more than satisfied with having to use After Effects for exporting alpha channels if need be. Plus it seems like I’m the only one having this problem anyway, so even the greater good won’t be helped 😉

Again, thanks for your time. Much appreciated.
    Cheers!

Do you drag all 1,000 files into the timeline? Sorry, just thinking to myself 😉

[Duke Sweden] “. Plus I’ve always wondered how to work with PNG’s. Do you drag all 1,000 files into the timeline?”

When importing image sequences with continuous numbering you would just check the “image sequence” checkbox in the import window.

Thanks, Tero, but once imported do you have to place all of them into the timeline or does it become one big file. The short clip I tried out, about 14 seconds, did produce a clean alpha channel, but there were 437 images, 2.08 mgs each.

Nevermind, I just did it and it does combine them into one file. Great!
    Thanks everybody!

I needed to export a sequence of subtitles with an alpha channel with a Quicktime with the animation codec. I’m using PP CC 2017.01. Didn’t work. Found this thread and began to meander through it. I saw the suggestion to try 32 bit depth instead of 24 bit. That worked!!

I had success with export of video with alpha channel this way, using CS5:

After importing my png sequence (with alpha channel), go to Export–> Media.

In the settings dialogue, choose Microsoft AVI for format. On the right hand pane, 1/2 way down are tabs.

    Choose video tab.

    For Video Codec, select “None.”

Check the box which says “Render at Maximum Depth.” Then in the dialogue box just below that, choose “32 bit.”

I also checked “Use Maximum Render Quality.”

I did this again, this time adding a non transparent green background to the png sequence to simulate green screen footage. I exported it in 24 bit. So, no transparency. I then keyed out the background in Premiere and exported again using the Microsoft AVI/None/MaxDepth/32bit. Worked well.
