August 27, 2009 at 10:28 pmMake sure the timeline is selected before going to File>Export>Tape.
you can’t export say the effects control panel to tape so that is going to grey out the export to tape option.

August 27, 2009 at 11:25 pmHi Jon,
thats not the problem, been cutting with prem, for 6 years
never had this error before. I have even tried a new SD project (in case it was the HDV that had the problem) just with system bars and that will not print to tape either..all very strangeany ideas ?

August 28, 2009 at 8:34 amHello
I had the same kind of thing, but as I use Blackmagic so maybe it doesnt help You.
I had previously (in other project) captured through firewire and had disconnected the deck afterwards. When I had to export to tape in other project later (export through blackmagic HD-SDI this time) the menu was grayed out also. The problem for me was that it was still expecting firewire deck control and there was no deck connected. So I had to open capture window and change capture deck control settings there from DV/HDV to Blackmagic. That made ‘export to tape’ menu available again.Maybe it doesnt help you as i dont know if matrox has it the same way as blackmagic.

Remember to activate “export to 1394” in (Matrox)playback settings.
Also, make sure deck format is set to HDV and not auto, and cycle the deck power (with FireWire plugged in). Different plug and play drivers load for DV and HDV operation, and you can’t export to HDV if the DV drivers are loaded.

August 28, 2009 at 5:11 pmHI, there is no “export to 1394” in (Matrox)playback settings.
all you have is a choice of HDV output of component output
unlike an SD project that has the “export to 1394” all very odd, last edit i did worked fine.have tried a system restore, but that also did not sort the problem
I can capture, from both my HDV deck and J30 with no problems, just can’t print to tape..
looks as if I will need to do a reformat and re install . Great just what i dont want.,
is there any other settings that could have been turned off by mistake. i did notice when i started that all my keyboard short cuts had gone.

August 29, 2009 at 7:25 amHi,
At last found it, it was the decive control in capture, it was set to DV/HDV device control and not Matrox DV/HDV device control!!, now the next question would be who changed it?
