Can’t export Alpha Channel, Really Hating Media Encoder
In every other version of Premiere Pro I’ve been able to make a Targa sequence with Particle Illusion, import the frames into the timeline, and export a .avi file as “Uncompressed” that has an alpha channel.
It was simple; you just went to File>Export> Choose AVI as the file type> Uncompressed as the codec. This made some pretty big files, but they were great quality and perfect for importing in to AE for motion graphic work.
I have been trying to figure out how to do this in Media Encoder for two days now. I’m about ready to set my computer on fire and unload a few .44 rounds into it. I’ve tried so many different options…. but there doesn’t seem to be a single one that has the simple terminology of the older versions. I’m hoping it’s right under my nose and I just don’t know what to look for.
So far, the Microsoft AVI “Uncompressed” apparently does not generate an Alpha channel now. I have tried a few others…there’s so many different possible combinations though it would be silly to try and list them all.
All I want to do is end up with a high-quality (for all intents and purposes “Lossless”) video file (.avi) that has an Alpha Channel so I can bring it in to After Effects and use it how I like.
If any of you know how to do this, please share your knowledge.
At the same time, if your solution is to suggest a third-party software or tell me to import the Premiere Pro file to use the Sequence as a video track in the After Effects timeline, I politely request that you do not post such a response. It’s not the question I’m asking. Hell, forget I have After Effects. Imagine I’m using some wonky motion graphics software that you’ve never heard of, and I simply require an AVI that has an alpha channel.
Again, I’ve been able to do this in every version of Premiere Pro until CS4, so unless Adobe stripped functionality out of an “updated” version of their software, it stands to reason it’s possible to do now.
