So last summer I finally get that HD camera (Sony HDR-CX550) which meant I had to upgrade to a new computer that I was told would be able to handle all the new, huge HD files:

    HP Elite HPE-480t
    Intel Core i7 CPU 930 @ 2.8 GHz
    64 Bit
    8 GB RAM
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 420
    Sony Vegas 8.1 build 171, 64 bit

And I’m importing all my vacation clips into a full HD project template and it’s going verrry slowwwwly, and frequently crashing Vegas outright. Now I can only import a few clips at a time and even then it takes a couple of minutes for each batch – and there are many clips to go. Now it’s stopping completely and giving me a message that my memory is too low.

Isn’t 8 GB of RAM enough?

A glance at my Windows Task Manager reveals Physical Memory of:
    Total: 8183
    Cached: 5036
    Available: 4982
    Free: 0

How do I get Vegas to access those 5 GB of above available memory?

[Grant Gottschall] “Sony Vegas 8.1 build 171, 64 bit”

Vegas Pro 8.1 is old and full of bugs. I would download a trial of Vegas Pro 10 64-bit and see if it makes a difference. If it does (and I believe it will), you now know how to fix the problem. 😉
