  • Can’t delete audio without also deleting video

I’m using MVS Platinum trial 9.0b. The clips in the time line are 1920x1080i AVCHD with 5.1 audio from a Sony camcorder. The video is in the main Video Track and the associated 5.1 audio occupies 4 audio tracks: Front (stereo), Center, LFE, and Rear (stereo.)

I want to delete the audio of one of the clips but leave the video for that clip. I tried a few things to de-couple the audio from the video for that clip so I could delete the audio only (and only for that clip, not the other clips in the time line):

    1. clicked the “Ignore Event Grouping” button at the top.

    2. selected the video portion of the clip, right-clicked and selected Group/Remove from group.

    3. selected the 4 audio portions of the clip, rigth-clicked, and selected Group/Remove from Group

And I’ve tried various combinations of those three steps.

In each case after doing one or more of the above, when I select one, or all four, audio clips associated with a video clip and hit the delete key on the keyboard (or right-click and select “delete”), the video is deleted along with the audio.

From what I can tell from various tutorials and searching this forum, the technique I am trying should work, but the tutorials and forum posts did not specifically mention 5.1 audio so maybe it has to be deleted differently? Or more likely, I must be mis-understanding how to do this.

    Ideas? Thanks.

Please disregard. I finally figured out that I also have to disable auto-ripple when doing this.

I am not sure why having auto-ripple ON causes the video to be deleted. I thought auto-ripple was related to whether to slide other clips right or left when performing an operation such as deleting a clip, resizing a clip, etc.
