  • Can’t Change Clip Settings after logging

Posted by Kevin Hedin on May 14, 2007 at 6:40 pm

A previous version of FCP used to allow me to log all my clips, then if I forgot to log with the audio tracks on (or vice versa), I could change that in the browser before capture. Now it won’t let me. Any reasons why? or is there a new way to do this without having to re-log?

    Hi,
    I know it works in v5.1.2 thoug…
Try this; open log and capture, drag your clip from the bin into the log and capture window; make your changes, and hit F2.
Keep in mind that this makes dupes of your clips so its nice to move all the clips you want to change to a bin called “old” before you start, or set logging bin to a bin called “new”.

If its many clips and you have forgotten the same in every clip I would consider exporting to XML – open the file with Excell, change the setting, and import again.
If you wonder how your proper settings should be in exsell; log a correct clip and export that to xml as an referance…

    Cheers,
    Andreas

Right-click on the clip(s) and choose clip settings. Change the audio/video info there.

Thanks for the XML/Excel tip, I didn’t realize you could do that.

As far as dragging clips one at a time back to the Log & Capture window, that’s exactly what I’ve had to do, but it’s a pain. I’m just now sure why Apple would remove that feature to be able to change those settings directly in the browser.

Wow, I can’t believe I never saw that window. Thanks, that’s exactly what I was looking for.

I was thinking you were talking about the item properties of the clip, but now I see that each offline clips settings are accessed through right-clicking ‘clip settings’.

Veteral FCP user, but ALWAYS learning!

This is new in FCP 5.1.x, that’s probably why you haven’t seen it.

It makes sense once you find it!
