  • Can’t change clip settings after logging

Posted by John Major on July 21, 2008 at 6:54 pm

Hi all, Here is my problem.
I’m using FCP 6.0.3 and I have clips that were logged with 8 audio channels enabled. I only want to capture 2 so I need to change the clip settings before I capture them. The problem is when I right click on the off line clip and select clip setting, I get a message that says “No items have files that are applicable to this operation.”
It doesn’t matter if the clip is captured or not, I get the same error for any clip. Anyone have any ideas??

    Thanks, John

Please give exact details of the media the format and settings and what you did to fix them. It works for me correctly with offline clips.

    All the best,

I’m importing from a JVC BR-HD50 deck, converting the HDMI out to HD-SDI through a convergent designs MI box, and into the mac via a AJA Kona LHe card. The footage is 720p 24 and imported using the Panasonic DVCPRO-HD 720p 59.98 codec.
The person that logged the footage didn’t know to turn off audio channels 3 thru 8 when logging. Now we simply want to change that setting.

    Thanks, John

[John Major] “‘m importing from a JVC BR-HD50 deck, converting the HDMI out to HD-SDI through a convergent designs MI box, and into the mac via a AJA Kona LHe card. “

Please try to use the correct terminology. Importing is the transfer of files, such as from a hard drive to a computer. Digitizing is the capture of media from a VTR or camera.

[John Major] “The person that logged the footage didn’t know to turn off audio channels 3 thru 8 when logging. Now we simply want to change that setting. “

Just set your Log and Capture window as you want it to be. In your case, Video and 2 channels of audio turned on.

Click “Batch” in the Log and Capture Window.

Select “All Offline Items” or “All Items” depending on what you want to capture.

UN-check “Used Logged Clip Settings.” This will force FCP to capture using the current settings in the Log and Capture Window and not the settings used when logged.

Capture, you’ll get video and 2 channels of audio.

Thanks Walter. I kinda figured you’d have an answer. After reading your suggestion, I can’t believe I didn’t think of that. As for the terminology, I’m well aware. Just not thinking when I was writing. My apologies!

Thank you very much for the help.

BTW… Did you have any thoughts on why I can’t just change the setting in the clip settings menu?

Did you have the Log and capture window open? FCP likes to lock you out of things when that window is open. Especially if you are changing clip settings.

I’ve tried it both ways. Either way it still doesn’t work.
