  • Can’t Capture – JVC 720p

    Hi,

This seems to be an old and apparently common issue, but I can’t seem to find the solution.

    I was given a tape apparently shot on a JVC GY-HD110U 720/60P

The deck reads reads the tape fine – but I can’t get FCP to recognize the tape.

In the capture window FCP recognizes the timecode and can control the tape, but I’m not getting any pictures or audio.

In fact, I’ve tried 3 different decks and I’m getting the result.

Is there a special JVC codec I need to download?

    Any other advice?

    Thanks,

    Wayne

Which decks? These won’t play on Sony decks…different HDV formats. When you say the decks read them fine, can you play them back on a monitor? Or do you mean that they can see the timecode?

You need to play these back in a JVC deck, or JVC camera.

That format is supported by FC since v6.0.2 (great version) and If I’m not wrong JVC has been the only manufacturer to implement it. As Shane points you will need a JVC device to play the tapes.

Thanks for the prompt replies, Gents –

    I can’t recall the pro-deck I used, but I’ve also tried 2 Sony cameras.

With all three they play the tapes perfectly [ie, I get the video/audio in the monitor] – but it’s not recognized by FCP.

I’ll try hunt down a JVC HDV camera. Somehow.

    Thanks,

    Wayne
