I downloaded the Vegas Platinum Pro Pack Demo to give Vegas a Try. I went in to capture and it defaulted to my webcam. The Tape button was greyed out. I have a DV deck plunged into the computer and turned on. The deck is connected with a Pyro 1394 Card (Texas Instruments Chipset).

Is capture from tape disables in the demo. The PC has also got Avid installed on it, I seem to remember reading somewhere that both have problems co-existing.

    Regards,
    Ben

I don’t know about Avid incompatibilities but does Windows recognize your camera when you plug it in? You should hear a sound that it was connected and it could be listed as a device in Windows. If this doesn’t happen Vegas Movie Studio will never be able to see it.

You may check if Windows firewall or your firewall is blocking the 1394 port. This was a gotcha for me on Vista64.

Which port does firewire use. 1394 sounds sensible so I am guessing it is something else;).

Are there known incompatibility issues between Vegas and Avid?

I am not entirely sure but seem to remember someone mentioning it somewhere, sorry cant be more specific. I have now reinstalled windows and everything is working AOK. I do know that Avid is fairly invasive as it expects to be the main thing running on the box (due to its cost this is normally the case). I think I may start a new thread to get to the bottom of this.

Please do. Are you going to post it on the Vegas forum, or on the Avid forum?

I love Vegas, but I would also like to know what other tools are compatible/available.

    Thanks.
