Can’t Capture both DV Audio Channels
Posted by Running Walk on December 30, 2005 at 1:48 pmBrand new G5 DC 2.3 gig and just installed FCEHD. First two days capturing video and both audio channels. Two days ago fired up the app. and all of a sudden I’m only getting one audio channel during capture. What gives? In Express there’s not much to setting up a capture (“Easy Set-up”). I’ve reinstalled FCE, Apple was absolutely no help, tried a second camcorder – same thing.

December 30, 2005 at 5:43 pmAre you sure there’s audio on both channels? Did you use an external mic?

December 30, 2005 at 5:52 pmThere is audio on both channels. I used headphones into the PD170 to make sure. There’s also camcorder VU meters that “show” the audio. The really wierd thing is, as a test I re-captured some clips that originally captured with both channels of audio and this time only a1 captured.

December 31, 2005 at 12:28 amWhen you play the tape in the capture window do you see the audio meters moving? Are they both moving? After you capture the clip and open it into the Viewer what do you get, one tab marked Stereo, two tabs marked Mono (a1) and Mono (a2)? Is there audio in one tab and not in the other? Or in the Stereo tab is there audio displayed only on one track and not on the other? The more detail you can give the better. Like how are you monitoring the sound in the computer? What’s happening in the meters when you play the audio back?
All the best,
Tom

December 31, 2005 at 12:54 amOkay, home (from “Real” job) and have been testing. I only see one (left) meter moving in pre-view as I view tapes in the capture window. If I choose “Capture Now” and capture a clip I get 2 channel Mono when I drag the clip into the viewer. If I choose “Clip” I get only a1. Strange. I’ve updated everything – I’m running FCEHD 3.0.1, Quicktime 7.0.3 and just updated Pro App 3.1 for OS 10.4. This very (as they say here in the South) “frustratin”.
