Ok, this is a new problem I’ve been having. I usually burn to DVD’s ok, but just recently PPro 1.5 goes through the entire process of burning, but now I can’t even get the computer nor any DVD player to read the disc. I put the disc into the computer, and it comes up empty, like there’s nothing on it. But if I flip it over, I can tell that something has been written to the disc.

I have a 30 min project, and I’ve tried almost everything. I changed my settings from VBR-CBR, 7.0 Bitrate, Lower Fields-Upper fields; I tried it all. I ahve a Lite-On DVD+RW LDW 401S burner, and it’s worked before using PPro 1.5. Can anyone give any suggestions? Please help.

**I also have Avid Express on my computer, does that change anything. I can’t recall if PPro stopped burning DVD’s after Avid was installed.

My first guess would be that the Avid is what is causing the problem. At least with Encore there are several burning for both CD’s and DVD’s that interfere, Roxio and Nero are two examples.

But on the other hand my experience and understanding with such software actually causes the process to stop, not just finish with a bad disc.

You did not mention this in your post, but have you switched brands or types of media? That can always be a factor.

If you have Encore try burning a disc from there and see what happens.

I noticed with 8x disc media that I would have to burn it at no more than 6x, but again that is in Encore.

I don’t know enough about AVID to give a definitive answer, but the fact that you noticed that it wasn’t working until after you installed AVID maybe a little telling.

Maybe someone else with knowledge of AVID maybe able to throw in an idea on this conversation?

    So maybe try

    1) uninstalling AVID and then see what happens.
    2) Change your blank media.

Actually reverse the order of that, and see what happens.

(This was WAY longer than I expected)

    Good luck

Thanks. Actually, I was using a different brand of DVD’s at first, but then I switched backt and it’s still didn’t work properly. But I downloaded the trial version of Encore and burned some DVD’s through that application. Even that application was strange, I tried to burn 6 DVD’s at a time, and out of the 6, 3 worked. It switched off, the first one worked, then the second one didn’t work (bad disc), and back and forth like that. I also have Nero on my computer.

Do you know how can I have both programs on the same computer without either one interfering with the other? I have four hard drives, and one external.

Turn Nero off and see what happens.

The way I understand it applications like Nero and others constantly “talk” to the DVD burner, and therefore interfering, so it won’t matter where you place Nero.

My guess is Nero is the problem.

Let us know if that works.

Oh ok, I’ll give that a shot, but you mean turn off Nero by going into the Startup Applications, and turn it off there? Or how?

    Actually uninstall Nero.

From what I have read on the forums on the Adobe site you should not have a third-party software on a authoring system.

When I upgraded my burner to a double-layer I never installed Nero at all and have never had any problems with discs from either Pro or Encore.

What confuses or concerns me is that you think this occured after you installed AVID on your system, or that you were already burning with Nero.

If removing Nero does not work post your question in the AVID forum and see what they have to say.

Take a look at this link from the Adobe Offical Site.
