can’t batch capture existing clips using apple pro res422
hi,
Is it possible to batch capture pre-logged HDV clips using the capture preset ‘HDV – apple ProRes 422’?
I originally captured entire HDV tapes using this preset – FCP created a new clip every time I pressed ‘record’ on the camera. I used media manager to create subclips, delete unused media and rename the clips. Now my hard drive with all the clips on has died and I need to recapture the clips.When I used to edit in SD, I would have just selected all the clips from a particular tape, put the tape in my deck, opened the log and capture window and pressed ‘batch capture’. I can’t seem to do this with this preset.
Selecting ‘batch capture’ or ‘log and capture’ just brings up a small window saying ‘HDV capture’ and the only options are capture (which captures the whole tape, as described above), or cancel. I can’t work out how to open the ‘log and capture’ window that I used to see, with the option to ‘batch capture’.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this not possible?
I am using FCP Studio 6 and working with PAL HDV tapes.Thanks in advance.

You cannot batch capture HDV to ProRes. It is a CAPTURE NOW only procedure. That’s the big drawback.

Thanks for confirming that – I thought that must be the case (unfortunately).
taking this into account, I will probably ‘batch capture’ using alternative settings. What capture and sequence presets would you recommend for a project mostly shot in PAL HDV which will eventually be produced as an SD DVD and an HD digital download!?

HDV. Unless…what is the other footage, and how much of it? If over say 2%, then edit in a ProRes timeline.
