Cant add audio keyframes
I’m trying to change the video and audio speeds of a clip in fcp 7.01. I want to start the clip at 100%, ramp up to 150% mid-clip and back down to 100% at the end of the clip. When I add a keyframe to the video track (linked with the audio tracks) keyframes are not added to the audio tracks and the audio stays at 100%. The video is no problem. When I try to add the keyframes directly to the audio tracks the pen tool changes to an arrow with an x by it. I can, however do a constant speed change. Am I trying to do something that can’t be done or am I simply overlooking a setting? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Adding an opacity keyframe has nothing at all to do with adding an audio level keyframe. The two are independent. Changing the speed keyframes is independent as well. None of these things are connected to each other.
If you have the regular selection tool active, and move it to the audio level line, it will adjust the level line. If you hold the Option key it will change to the Pen tool when you get to the line.

Hi Tom, I’m not trying to change the opacity or the audio levels using keyframes, simply the speed of both the audio and video. The intended result is a where clips action is gradually sped up beyond normal speed to appear exaggerated or fast speed. And the audio staying in sync with the video to gradually become higher pitched. A comic effedt for a tv humorist.

Sorry I misunderstood. That’s the correct behavior. The audio changes with constant speed, but there is no change with variable speed as the duration of the clip does not change.

Of course, I should have realized that. Do you know of a way to use variable speed changes which do allow for duration change?

Not with variable speed I’m afraid. That’s the way the app works.
