I have some clips on the timeline (same track). Why can I add a transition (dissolve) between some clips and not between others?

Is this the only option? (ripple -15 frames +15 frames)
I have a After effects clip and I can’t add a transition to it in FCP. If I ripple the clips, the audio is overlapped and ruined. These clips take at least 30min each to render from AE…

Does that really mean I need to re-export my After effects clips?
Why does FCP do this? Why can’t it use the clips with the current handles?
I can add cross dissolves in Premiere pro with no issue…

    Other options in FCP?

    Thanks.
