I HAVE read the previous threads and the Adobe site suggestions to no avail.

All the sudden when I try capturing HD from my Canon XH A1s with PPro CS4 I get this error message “Can’t activate recorder, try resetting Camera”.

It wasn’t doing this last week and I haven’t changed any settings.

So multiple times in different sequences I tried turning re-setting & turning the cam off, restarting the computer, checked all my internal cam settings, unplugged the firewire cable.

And yes, I read all of the suggestions on the Adobe site.

I can capture with a cheap 80 dollar program with the same firewire connection but I don’t like to with that because I can’t refine the capture settings like in PPro.

So If any of you know or have a guess on whats going on here I’d appreciate any input.

I did notice that when I turn the camera on it doesn’t always get detected by windows other than the first time, should it?

    [Danny Winn] “should it?”

    Absolutely, yes.

If you create a new project can you capture using the camcorder?

    Cheers

    Thanks Eddie,

Even though I was setting up a new project and selecting HDV 108024p for my capture setting, the problem I know now was that it was defaulting back to “DV” in the “Capture Settings” Tab when I attempted to capture, I never looked there because the error message makes it sound like your camera is the problem. I knew I was selecting HDV 108024P in the initial project setups (I did about 12 different project setups before I caught it).

The error message should say “Check HDV/DV Capture settings”. Haha

Seems to work now but I will always check that when capturing now.

    Thanks for your response.

    You’re welcome.

I’m glad you figured it out.

    Happy editing. 🙂
