  • Canopus – new to FCP

    Hi,
I have been setting up my first FCP system and was wondering about Canopus. So far, on my first project I’ve been importing P2 files and on occasion capturing footage from a consumer model Canon HD camera (HV20) via firewire. I was noticing the Canopus video converter and wondering what that device would do for me. Would I be able to play out the project real time to a dvd recorder? And would it be better to capture footage from the camera through it to FCP or would it simply just capture analogue video signals. I’m not sure what else I need at this point. Thanks in advance. Happy holidays.

The Canopus analog to digital (DV) converter products are typically used to capture analog signals and to view the output of your time line to video and audio monitors.

However, not all codecs are supported for firewire previews.

You mention P2. You need to look into something a product like the Matrox MXO if you want to output HD to external monitoring.

    A review of the MXO:

Three notes if you are working primarily in DV:

    1. Your camera can be used to preview the output of the time line to video and audio monitors. It is a convenience and wear and tear issue
