I am an experienced Premier Pro and Discreet Edit user. I now have an opportunity to use FCP 4.5HD on a Dual 1.8 Power Mac G5. I have a Canopus ADVC110 as my analog capture device. I also plan to use the ADVC110 to drive an NTSC monitor for viewing the sources and timeline. I have reviewed the settings for playback in FCP and have set up video playback for Apple Fire Wire NTSC 720×480 and my audio playback for Built In Audio since I’m using an amp connected to my sound card for audio playback. The audio playback is fine on the amp but I cannot get video to come back through the firewire to the ADVC110 and out to the NTSC monitor.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Other things worth mentioning:

The NTSC monitor is working. Tested a camera on the input and got video.
I have cables correctly connected to the AV outputs of the ADVC110.
I have successfully captured analog material through the ADVC110 into FCP.
The ADVC110 shows up in the system profiler under the fire wire bus tree.

    Hi
Its best to have the audio monitoring set to the same output as the video, as there can be slight latency in passing the video to the FW port, which can give out of sync playback monitoring.

Go to the FCPHD Menu and check Audio/Video Settings. Is Video Playback set to FW?
If that’s OK then make sure the External Video setting at the bottom of the View Menu is set to All Frames. There’s a Refresh A/V Devices option there that may help once the settings are correct.
