Canon’s XL H1 HDV & FCP Advice…
Hey there thanks for your thoughts in advance, I appreciate your input.
We have a shoot coming up on the H1 and have a few things we are trying to decide on.
We are looking to capture the footage on site to an external hard drive and was wondering about the firestore with 1080i? Is there a better way?Also what would be the best way to transfer that footage into FCP? Am I jsut over thinking this and it’s really as easy as importing from an external drive?

Well it depends on wether you are planing on capturing HDV or if you are going to use the HDSDI output on the camera to get full uncompresed HD footage. If youare just doing HDV then the firestore drive should be perfect. As for the full uncompresed HD, thats one thing that sets this camera appart from all other HDv cameras, while it will only record HDV to tape it also gives you the option to use the HDSDI out and record full HD to a deck or straight to a computer. Full HD is going to need some serious hard drive though (like the XServe)
