I keep hearing how Canon will upgrade the firmware on the XL-H1a to do 525i50 and 25F, etc, “for a fee”. Don’t know why this isn’t just a menu option in this day & age. Does anyone know how much it costs? I don’t want to buy one of these things and find out they mean a fee of $2,000 or something nuts like that. I also don’t want to send it to a Canon factory service centre for them to go “huh? upgrade to PAL? no way.”

It’s $500 and requires the camera to be sent back to a Canon service centre. I really need to get mine done (I moved from the UK to the US earlier this year) but I hate the idea of 2 weeks without the camera and paying $500 for a job I could do myself in 30 seconds if they just made the firmware available from their support site.
