Canon XL-H1 – does it output embedded audio from HD-SDI BNC ?
Hi –
does the Canon XL-H1 embed the audio into the HD-SDI stream when playing back
from the HDV VTR ?Bob Zelin
(and can anyone answer my previous question on the Canon Console CCU program ?).

Unfortunately the Canon HDSDI does not include either audio or TC. You have to access these seperately. As for the Console question I suggest you ask Canon directly. I haven’t tried it out since I run stuff on a Mac.

You will need to get the Miranda doo-hickey thingie to embed audio and timecode in the HD-SDI signal out. You have to do the same thing with XDCAM HD when going HD-SDI out.

I prefer the Convergent design HD-Connect LE box. I have one and it is very robust and works like a charm.
Gives any HDV camcorder an SDI output with embedded audio. Gives you RS-422 deck control too with embedded timecode too. Just like my AJA Kona 2 card likes it.
I’m using this box all the time for one thing or another…

How can you access the audio separately, when as soon as the HD/SD SDI connector is plugged in, all audio connectors are mute. Except the heaphone jack.
Could not believe that its not possible to playback recorded tape from this deck, using SDI. What is the point of it, if you cannot access the audio!Fiannly used the YUV via an Extreme. A MAJOR disappointment with this camera, Useless specs and useless sockets. This is not made clear in the manual.
It should say When using SDI, All audio output is shut down, thereby making any use of the SDI worthless.
