I’ve read on the AVID site that Media Composer does not support Canon’s 24F mode. Is this just via FireWire and can still capture as 24fps from a DV deck? Or am I screwed if I’m hoping to edit Canon 24F footage on Avid?

I thought Avid was trying to lead the way in mixing formats in a sequence. What gives?

Anyone run into this yet? Can I download a codec for this? Thanks

Also should add for those who aren’t Canon users, ’24F’ is different from ’24p’, so it captures differently. Just so you know there is a distinction. I haven’t seen any patch notes from Avid highlighting a fix for this, but maybe someone has run across this?

At this point it seems my only option is to capture through another program (ala Premiere Pro) and import into Avid, but who wants to do those extra, time consuming steps? Bumping for input and advice.

Here’s one workaround: Use HDV Split (free software Win only) to capture your clips as m2t files. Use MPEG Streamclip (also free both platforms) to open then convert these to Quicktime files using DNxHD compression which can be imported to a 1920×1080 23.976 project. While the conversion takes some time, you will not have to transcode the hdv clips when you go to make a quicktime reference file as they’re no longer hdv.

    Best,
