    Hi all,

I’ve recently aquired a Canon XF100 to use for our primary ENG camera (really quick, breaking-news type stuff). Quick turnaround in our workflow is of the utmost importance.

I’ve been utilizing PremierePro CS 5.5 for my editing solution and am wondering if there are any steps I can take to optimize my workflow.

Currently I record in 720p60, ingest my files using the CanonXF utility, and then import into my PP bin via the Media Browser.

I’ve been using AJA preset sequences to take advantage of my reference monitor but I often drop frames, especially when adding lower-thirds created in After Effects, or adding any sort of color-correction effect to the main media.

My machine is a 2012 PowerMac 2x 2.4 Xeon, 12GB RAM, ATI HD 5870. And, of course, the aformentioned AJA KONA LHi. Most of my “working” media is being played off of an SSD (or, at worst, my 7200rpm HD).

Would I see any benefit from ingesting my clips using AJA’s VTR Xchange into an uncompressed format? Would getting some sort of RAID setup be the best option to speed up the real-time playback from the timeline? I’m mostly concerned because my bosses like to take a quick look at our edits before final export and I would like to be able to give them a real-time preview without rendering out the entire timeline.

Thanks for taking the time to read,
    ryan
