Canon XF-100 ok with PPro on Mac?
Posted by Alex Udell on May 23, 2013 at 6:44 pmHi All..
we are considering picking up a Canon XF-100 as our acquisition camera.
Are these MXF files ok with PPro?
Thanks…
Alex

May 23, 2013 at 10:27 pmWhat version of CS?
I think anything from CS5 up should be fine. I shoot a C300 (same XF codec with MXF wrapper) and CS6 can import the media natively without transcoding or rewrapping.
Premiere CC should have no problems as well if you’re moving to the cloud.

May 23, 2013 at 11:12 pmI have a xf100 and mxf files work perfectly on my pc.
So I figure they will also work just fine on a mac.
Providing its powerful enough to handle 50 mbps.———————————————–

I import the MXF files (once copied from CF Card) and use them in Premiere Pro CS6 without any problems.

May 24, 2013 at 3:03 pmHiya…
I’ve been tasked to look into this camera.
Regardless of the reseller, Does Canon offer optional warranty extensions for a camera like this?
My initial searches seem to indicate that they don’t?
What do you all see?
thanks,
Alex

May 24, 2013 at 3:15 pmOk. So Canon says no extended warranty packages.
That leaves it to a 3rd party.
Anyone done this?

I’ve not heard of this for a camera in this price range. At $2500 nearly any repair is going to run you at least half of the camera cost (shipping, tear down cost, parts, labor, etc.). In another year or two the tech will be obsolete and not worth repairing for $1K or $2K when you can buy X that will likely be better. These types of cameras don’t have a long shelf life in my opinion. In fact, cameras in general seem to be having a short and shorter shelf life! The tech turns over so quickly that it’s almost not worth repairing a sub $5K camera after it’s 2-3 years old.
Just my $.02
