I just purchased a Canon XA20 and I have a couple of questions:

    1. If I want to shoot at 60fps (59.94P), should I choose the 35mbps MP4 option or should I choose the AVCHD LPCM 28mbps option? I have read that AVCH compression is superior to MP4 (and it clearly is in terms of audio). So which of these two settings is the best? I certainly enjoy the convenience of editing MP4 of on my Mac.

    2. If I do not need to shoot at 60fps (eg. if there no need for slo-mo in post), then am I better off shooting at 24mbps and 30fps? It seems that at higher frame-rates, less bits would be allotted to each frame. Note that at 35mbps MP4 and 28mbps AVCHD, the XA20 imposes the use of 60fps.

I shoot nature footage and hence like the option of real slo-mo. So right now I’m shooting entirely at 35mbps MP4. But is this my best choice?

I have the same question, waiting on my XA20 to come in. I’m using FCP X on a MacPro.
