    Hey guys,

We’re testing out a Vixia HGF10 at work, but its video files (.mts, some mpeg variant, I think) aren’t native to our macs. Is there anyway to import these files into FCP 6, or convert them to a workable format? We’ve tried using Compressor and Episode with no luck…

    Any input is greatly appreciated…

You’ll need to convert them to .mov so FCP can see them. I believe MPEG Streamclip (free) can handle the job for you.

I would convert them to a ProRes based codec. Since you’re using FCP6 I think you have access to ProRes422 (I would also recommend ProRes (LT), but I don’t think that was available until FCP7).

Hm… Negative on the mpegstream clip, I get an error reading “Cannot read frame size” on export…

However, I found a work around using iMovie, which can eat the .MTS files and spit out .MOVs. Strange that FCP can’t do this, but iMovie can.

    Thanks for the advice!

.MTS…then try ClipWrap2. It works with AVCHD files.

    Convert to ProRes
