    Hello everyone,

I’ll get straight to the point and the major problem that’s driving me insane.

First of all i’m running Windows xp.I’ve been capturing in dv for years and editing videos with no problem.

I recently bought Canon a HV40 for my work as an independent filmmaker.

Before that i had first a Sony HC30F and then a Sony DCR-HC94.

I never had any problems with the HC30F since my computer(and other 2 i have in the house) recognized it just fine. The HC94 was recognized for a while and then stopped(it wouldnt be recognized by my main pc and the other 2 i mentioned),but since HC30F was always recognized by windows i used it for capturing only and did my job fine, not worrying about anything.

Recently, about 3 weeks ago i tried capturing with Canon HV40 via my firewire, and it worked fine. A few days ago i tried to capture with my HV40 again but the pc stopped recognizing it.Great.
I thought it had something to do with the firewire cable,so i bought a new one, but now it still wont be recognized either by this or any of the other pc’s.

I kinda lost all hope, and still…the HC30F is still recognized..(!)

But then again since my footage was shoot in hdv i can’t capture it from a dv,or so i hear.

    Any tips,solutions or anything?

    Cheers

    Thanos

Ι’ll also note(although there are no replies so far) that i’ve tried HDV Split but it wont recognize the camera either.

Hope i get a solution soon,i’m having a terrible problem regarding my job here 🙁

    I had a similar problem with xha1.
my work around for HDV split and xha1 was to
    1) close all programs
    2) plug in the camera
    3) press play
    4) wait to see time stamp moving
    5) THEN start HDVsplit
    6) hit record

luckily hdvsplit will save the tapename/settings.
