having a really difficult time trying to get fcp 5.1.4 to capture HDV footage from my canon HV10. i’ve tried also bringing it in through iMovie HD….still it gives me the ridiculous “DV – OUT” icon and sends out stretched 4:3 footage.

if anybody can help beyond the steps listed below, that’d be awesome!!!!

Open FCP, go to the “Final Cut Pro” Menu and select “Easy Setup”, select “HDV – 1080i60”.
Next, go to the “Final Cut Pro” Menu, select “Audio/Video Settings” and make sure settings are set as follows:
    Sequence Preset: HDV – 1080i60
    Capture Preset: HDV
Device Control Preset: HDV FireWire Basic
Video Playback: (select depending upon what you have for a playback monitor system)
Audio Playback: (select depending upon what you have for an audio monitoring system)

Next, go to the “File” menu, select “New” and then select “Sequence”…
FCP will create a new sequnce based upon what the Audio/ Video Settings were most recently set to… The new sequence will be highlighted in the browser window – give the new sequence a name, double-click on it to open it and you are good to go.

    la mer,
I used the same setting and had no problem. Check the camera settings. The manual walks you through a few menu settings necessary before capturing to a computer.

Make sure your Canon HV10 is setup for DV OUTPUT “HDV/DV”.
You can only change this setting when the firewire cable is unplugged
