    Good Morning Everybody!

How to you get the clips off this cam and into Vegas?

My client handed me this cam, usb cord, and power cord.
The 80 clips are on the built in 65GB internal drive taking up about 15GB.
There is also an empty 8GB SD card in the cam.
I do not have the owners manual or the software and Canon’s website does not offer them. I will be getting them from the client later today but until then I’m stuck.

My PC running Vegas Pro 8 does not recognize the cam.
I copied a test clip I made on the cams internal drive to the SD card and when I put it in my USB card reader it has an I/O device error

I used another SD card in the same reader so I know my reader is OK.

    I’m stuck…any ideas?

There is no manual there that I see…only product brochures.

Can you find a direct link to an operation manual for this cam?
I’ve spent a couple hours looking.

    Thanks!

    Chuck,

Since this isn’t your video camera, you probably don’t have the software needed to have the video camera recognize your computer. The other way of transfering your footage is through an SD card.

Here’s the link to the Canon manual. Go to page 130 and follow the instructions.

    Chuck,

Sorry, I forgot to mention about the SD card problem. Make sure you scroll through the menu on the video camera and find the “format SD card.” After you format, transfer your clips (8GB at a time) to your computer.

    Update…
I picked up the operation manual and OEM Canon software and installed the “transfer utilities”. The cam was still not recognized.

The workflow of copying internally up to 8GB of files using the cam and then copying them to my PC never worked. I formatted the card in the cam and the files would play in the canon cam but when I put the card in my USB adaptor my PC says there is an I/O error.

I was at the end of my rope about to install the canon software in a different editing PC and then I thought why not try a different USB cable. It worked!!!
Seems the client gave me a defective USB cable when he dropped off the camera and wall power cord.
I cannot believe I wasted several hours today because of a bad USB cable.

    Now the fun part…
How do I import these mts files into Vegas and make this client some web videos?
What project properties should I start with?
What do I “render as” so he can link to these on youtube?

    Thanks!
