I have recently purchased an HF100, and have imported footage into FCP 6.0.4

Although I have chosen the 30p setting on the camera while shooting, when I first attempt to place clips in the timeline, it prompts me saying it is switching the sequence setting to the “correct” settings – which are HDTV 1080i.

If I look at the info of the capture, it says 29.97 for frame rate.

Can anyone tell me if the 30p is simply a ‘trick’ for the look of 30p (and not really progressive), and whether I should still be editing at the suggested 1080i?

Do I have to mess with pulling/dropping frames?

Also, should I export choosing deinterlace?

Or am I doing something wrong in the import section of the process???

I have Toast which will convert using other Codecs – woudl that make more sense??

    Thanks in advance.

It is in a interlaced wrapper.

Unless you are doing 24P, which I know very little about, you should just record 30P and set the sequence to the 1080i. You will still get the goodness of progressive!
