I recently purchased the g7x mark ii and love it but I don’t understand how the zoom works. Of course it’s just the push of a button but how do I know how much I’m zoomed in? For example, I’ll zoom all the way out (to be closer) and my lcd screen will read 40 or 50cm. But the lens says “4.2x zoom 8.8-36.8mm.” Can someone explain this to me? I’ve been trying to figure it out but I can’t make sense of it.

Also, my daughter likes taking daily photos that I post to her instagram but I feel that every photo has an issue. Not sharp, or out of focus etc. The lighting is not so great so I use flash.
    My manual settings:
    AF with tracking
    F1.8
    1/60
    ISO 125(I use flash)
    AWB
I’m no pro, trying to learn. Maybe the aperature is too wide?
