  • Canon FS100 MOD files are horizontally compressed

My son is doing a school project. They filmed it with a Canon FS100 that records standard definition MOD files to an SD card. When viewed on the camera the video is wide screen.

Vegas Pro 8 imports the files fine, audio and video. But the video is SD width and the content is horizontally compressed. When I choose wide screen in project properties The screen widens but the picture stays SD width and I get black vertical bars on each side.

I’ve tried the various formats and aspect ratios, nothing changes the compressed look.

Can anyone help me correct this?

Here’s a suggestion from another Vegas forum.

Set Vegas project properties to a widescreen project (NTSC Widescreen). THEN right click on the file in Vegas, select properties, and set aspect ratio to 1.222 Widescreen.

Mike, once again Creative Cow forums come to the rescue. I followed your instructions and everything looks normal. Thanks.
