    Good morning everyone,

Just in the early stages of a project that requires intercutting footage from my C300 MkII and one of my C300’s. An interesting issue arose with the C300 b-roll for this shoot. All clips imported fine except for the longest one (just over 5 mins) – although the ‘silhouette’ of the audio could be seen inside the audio inspector, the clip played as mute in both the Browser and on the Timeline. The original 2 subclips (mxf format) both played the associated audio correctly, from a Finder window, still resident on the CF card.

I tried the usual things – delete and re-import the clip, relaunch FCPX, another re-import. No change. I then dragged the 2 subclips (using Finder window operation) from camera card to the drive folder containing imported media, and when I reimported from there, the assembled .mov clip is all good – audio playing normally.

I offer this up as an interesting phenomenon, as I could not find any solutions for this issue online. If anyone has a theory as to what the underlying cause is, it would be interesting to hear it.

    All the best, Grant.

You are saying the import window results in no audio, but a direct drag and drop works?

    Jeremy, that is correct.

    Isn’t that interesting?

And it’s just an issue for this one clip, surrounded as it were on the card by multiple other b-roll clips. No problems with any of them as I string everything out for b-roll on the Timeline. Repeating the import process thru the FCP X window reliably produces the muted clip.

And what’s with the silhouette of the waveform being visible?

    Grant.

Is the clip long or spanned?
